  • Golf Course Superintendent
  • The Golf Course Superintendent works closely with the Director of Agronomy to further the goals of the golf club, and to further the career of the right candidate. Seven Oaks C.C. is a member owned country club, with a full range of country club life: tennis, swimming, fitness centers, banquet facilities and of course golf. The golf course is 27 holes, with the original 18 being built in 1990, opened in 1991, and the new nine holes opening in 2001. The greens are a mix of bent grass, Poa and some Bermuda contamination. The Board of Directors has hired an architect to perform a master plan moving forward that includes new greens, bunkers, tee work, drainage, and irrigation. Starting in 2018 with the first phase of a multi-year project.
    Seven Oaks C.C. is located in the central valley of California, which is just an hour and a half north of Los Angeles, just two hours east of Santa Barbra, three and a half hours south of SF Bay, and an hour west from snowy mountains. Which makes Bakersfield is centrally located to a variety of activities. The membership is very strong with over 1,000 total members, with 700+ golfing member. Seven Oaks CC has 35,000 rounds a year on the 27 holes with a budget over $2 million per year. Water is not an issue, as Seven Oaks has a well that performs well with great water quality. The current irrigation system is Rainbird heads, Par + controllers and Cirrus computer programming. The turf varieties are Bermuda tee to greens, overseeded short turf in the fall for winter, and greens are mostly bent grass which will be regrassed with Tyee/007 bent grass when re-built. The facility consists of 233 acres of turf grass with a total crew of 35 employees, and plenty of equipment to satisfy the course’s needs.

  • Position Summary

     Supervises, schedules, trains, and keeps the team motivated under the direction of the Dir. of Agronomy.  Establishes short and long term goals with the Dir. Of Ag and Greens Committee.  Maintains all records for fertilizer and pesticide applications.  Maintains all labor records and works with HR for all safety programs, time cards and more.  Oversees and performs all fertilizer and pesticide applications.  Oversees the assistant superintendent with respect of the irrigation system.  Works closely with the assistant superintendent and equipment manager with all team needs.  Close communication with the golf shop, F&B, and banquets for any needs each department may have with the golf course.  Assists with all proper training of the crew for equipment operation and all job tasks.  Maintains quality control with respect to all daily job tasks.

    Requirements

     2 or 4 year degree in turf grass management 

    Must have golf course maintenance experience. 

    Must have a strong attention to details to enhance the quality of the golf course and to hold the team to the same standards. 

    Strong ability to resolve team member conflicts and a strong problem solving ability.  Desire to grow as a turf grass manager in order to advance in their career.

    Ability to operate equipment, fertilizer applications and sprayers in order to properly train team members. 

    Frequent lifting, bending, climbing, stooping and pulling. Therefore, the ability to meet and perform the physical requirements of the job, and to work effectively in an outdoor environment which is typical in this position. 

    Ability to follow instructions given by the Dir. Of Ag, GM, Board members, or others. 

    Possess a valid California pesticide qualifying party license or obtain one within 60 days of accepting the position. 

    A valid driver’s license and clean record. 

    Must pass a drug test.

  • Compensation & Benefits 

    $45,000 – $55,000, will be based on experience. 
